Empowering Families and Veterans Outdoors

Safety in Every Step

Mission

Independence Outdoors VA aims to inspire families, women, Veterans, and youth by teaching vital outdoor skills such as hunting, habitat management, and food safety. We prioritize outreach to underserved communities, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to learn about wildlife management and sustainable practices.

Programs

Our Ongoing Efforts

Hunting

Skills & Safety

Our hunting programs provide practical training that includes safety protocols and techniques tailored for all ages. These sessions aim to build confidence and foster a respectful relationship with nature.  Our classes are taught through the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.  Successful completion of the Basic Hunter Education class will enable participants to purchase a Virginia hunting license from DWR.

Wildlife

Conservation Efforts

We conduct workshops on wildlife management and habitat preservation, educating participants on their ecological roles. Through hands-on experiences, we promote stewardship and sustainable practices in the Virginia landscape.

Food

Preparation Skills

Participants harvesting a game animal in our programs will be taught basic safety, cleaning and processing methods.  Our food safety and preparation instruction ensures that participants learn how to harvest and prepare game safely, focusing on hygiene and ethical practices. This knowledge empowers participants to make informed decisions when enjoying outdoor bounty.
